Thinking:

Beyond the here and now

View All Workshops
When: 10-26-2019 (Saturday) 09:00AM to 03:30PM
Description:

Most educational practices are based on a cognitive psychology lens where skills are taught. But doing skills will not provide an increase in thinking. Thinking and doing are not the same. To improve a learner's thinking beyond the "here and now," this workshop will provide methods of increasing deeper conceptualization through language-based literacy. Intermediate Level Workshop.

Key Concepts: Thinking, increased thinking, language-based literacy, learning, socio-cognitive process, language strategies, learning systems, language facilitation, process vs. products
Learner Objectives: Participants will be able to: 1) Explain why thinking and doing are not the same; 2) Explain why thinking in the “here and now” restricts language-based literacy; and 3) Describe two methods for increasing thinking.
